Combs Leads PC With Two Hits

SAVANNAH, Ga. ? Jared Combs finished with a team-high two hits, but Presbyterian College fell 13-3 on Sunday afternoon to Savannah State at Tiger Field.

 

The Savannah State victory gives the Tigers the three-game series win. PC and Savannah State overall were 3-3 on the year against one another as the Blue Hose took two of three from the Tigers last weekend at the PC Baseball Complex.

 

Overall, PC is now 11-26 on the year, while the Tigers improved to 19-17 on the 2008 season with the win on Sunday.

 

An eight-run third inning propelled the Tigers to the 13-3 victory. PC scored all three of its runs in the game in the top of the sixth inning.

 

Cory Lyda (Simpsonville, S.C.) kicked off the top half of the sixth inning for PC when he hit a solo home run to left field. The solo shot was the first home run of the year for Lyda, who ended Sunday with a team-best 17 extra-base hits on the 2008 season. Lyda has 14 doubles, two triples and one home run in 2008.

 

PC's Nate Horton (Spartanburg, S.C.) collected the second Blue Hose run of the stanza when he scored on an error by the Savannah State shortstop. Horton had reached base on a single to left field.

 

Three batters later, William Bolchoz (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) reached on a fielder's choice, picking up an RBI and allowing Combs to cross the plate to give PC its third and final run of the contest.

 

Combs overall was 2-for-5 from the plate with one run scored.

 

Brett Pointer led the Savannah State offense on Sunday, going 3-for-4 from the dish with three RBIs and one run scored.

 

The Blue Hose next welcome USC Upstate to the PC Baseball Complex for the second time in 2008 at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22.

 

Just one day later PC will travel to Fluor Field at the West End in Greenville, S.C. to take on the Clemson Tigers at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23.
