BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ? Presbyterian College baseball dropped both games of a doubleheader with UAB on Sunday afternoon at Young Memorial Field. UAB won game one, 3-2, and took a 3-1 victory in game two.
The Blue Hose are now 8-19 on the season, while the Blazers are now 12-17 on the 2008 season.
Game One
The Blue Hose were led in the game one loss by Casey Carlson (Lexington, S.C.), Cory Lyda (Simpsonville, S.C.) and Zac Rhinesmith (Acworth, Ga.). All three had a game-high tying two hits in the loss and were 2-for-3 from the plate. Lyda had one RBI in the game.
UAB was led in game one by Cody McMurry, who tied the PC trio for the game-high honors with two hits. McMurry was a perfect 2-for-2 in the contest from the dish and his hits in the game were a triple and a home run.
UAB started the contest by scoring two in the bottom of the second inning to take an early 2-0 lead.
PC cut the UAB lead to one run in the top of the next inning. Lyda picked up his RBI in the contest when he sacrificed to left field to score Jared Combs (Pooler, Ga.), who had started the inning by singling up the middle for PC.
The Blue Hose would tie the contest in the top of the fourth inning at 2-2 when William Bolchoz (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) singled in Nate Horton (Spartanburg, S.C.).
The Blazers would score the final run of the game in the bottom of the fourth when McMurry hit a game-winning home run to left centerfield.
Game Two
Lyda led PC for the third time in the series in game two with a team-best two hits. The two hits in game three of the three-game set between PC and UAB over the weekend left Lyda with seven hits in the series.
Lyda has now hit safely in eight consecutive games.
UAB scored the first of their three runs in the game in the bottom of the second inning. They added their final run in the bottom of the third inning.
PC scored its only run of the game in the top of the fifth inning when Rhinesmith sacrificed to left field to bring in Preston Simpson (Lancaster, S.C.), who had entered the game earlier in the inning to pinch run for Bolchoz.

The Blue Hose next travel to Kennesaw State to square off against the Owls in Kennesaw, Ga. at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8.
