PC Splits Season Series With Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. ? Presbyterian College fell 11-3 to Charlotte on Monday evening at Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium.

 

PC and Charlotte end the year having split their season series. Each team claimed one win in the first two games in the all-time series in 2008. The Blue Hose downed Charlotte earlier this season on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at the PC Baseball Complex by the score of 5-2.

 

Charlotte opened the game by scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Blue Hose cut the lead to 3-1 in the top of the third inning when Cory Lyda (Simpsonville, S.C.) doubled down the right field line to score Robbie Anders (Greenville, S.C.), who had opened the frame by singling to left field.

 

The 49ers (38-13) added three more runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 6-1 lead. They then added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to take an 8-1 advantage.

 

In the top of the seventh the Blue Hose scored two runs of their own to cut the lead to five runs at 8-3.

 

Steven Henry (Hoschton, Ga.) scored PC's first run in the inning on two errors in the same sequence by the Charlotte defense. Henry had walked to get on base.

 

William Bolchoz (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) then scored Rhinesmith with a double to left centerfield.

 

In the bottom of the seventh stanza with the bases loaded, Charlotte's Rob Lyerly hit a three-run double down the left field line to extend the Charlotte lead and set the final score at 11-3.

 

In total, four Blue Hose (12-36) had hits on Monday against Charlotte. Lyda, Bolchoz, Anders and Nate Horton (Spartanburg, S.C.) all had one hit.

 

Shane Moody led the 49ers from the plate. Moody had a game-high three hits and he scored two runs. Lyerly finished with a game-best four RBIs.

 

The Blue Hose next return home for a meeting with Georgia State at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at the PC Baseball Complex. The game will be the final home game of the season for the Blue Hose.

 

After their meeting with the Panthers, PC then travels to the lowcountry of South Carolina for four games in four days.

 

The Blue Hose first take on future Big South Conference foe Charleston Southern in Charleston, S.C. on Wednesday, May 14 before closing out their 2008 season with a three-game set with SoCon power The Citadel at Riley Park in Charleston, S.C.

 

The first game of the three-game series is at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 15. The Blue Hose and Bulldogs will then face off at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 16 before concluding the three-game series with a 1 p.m. contest on Saturday, May 17.
