CHARLESTON, S.C. ? Kyle Craven and Steven Henry both had two hits for Presbyterian College, but The Citadel scored three unanswered runs to earn a 3-2 victory over the Blue Hose on Thursday afternoon at Riley Park.
Craven (Savannah, Ga.) and Henry (Hoschton, Ga.) both were 2-for-4 for the Blue Hose in the game. Craven scored one run.
The Blue Hose (13-38) scored the first run in the game in the top of the second inning. In the first contest of his final three games with the Blue Hose, senior PC catcher and The Citadel transfer William Bolchoz (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) returned to the lowcountry of South Carolina by singling in Jesse Harmon (Newberry, S.C.) in his first at-bat on Thursday. The RBI single gave PC an early 1-0 advantage.
Harmon had doubled to right field to get in scoring position.
One inning later, PC took a 2-0 lead when Nate Horton (Spartanburg, S.C.) doubled to left centerfield to score Craven.
The Citadel scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game at 2-2.
Sonny Meade sacrificed in Chris Swauger with two outs to net the game-winning run for The Citadel (26-27) in the bottom of the eighth inning. Swauger had doubled through the left side to arrive on base for the Bulldogs.
Swauger led the Bulldogs in the game with two hits. He had two RBIs and scored two runs in the contest. One of his two hits was a home run.
Blue Hose starting pitcher Joe Hammond (Lilburn, Ga.) struck out five batters in six innings of work.
The Blue Hose and Bulldogs next face off at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 16 before concluding the three-game series with a 1 p.m. contest on Saturday, May 17.
Friday's game was originally scheduled for 4 p.m., but was pushed back to 1 p.m. due to the threat of inclement weather in the lowcountry of South Carolina on Friday.
