Lyda Leads All With Two Hits On Friday

CHARLESTON, S.C. ? Cory Lyda finished with a team-high two hits in Presbyterian College's 9-6 loss to The Citadel on Friday afternoon at Riley Park.

Lyda (Simpsonville, S.C.) was 2-for-5 overall in the contest. He was the only player on either team to finish with multiple hits on Friday.

Kyle Craven (Savannah, Ga.) had one hit for the Blue Hose in the game, but collected two RBIs. Steven Henry (Hoschton, Ga.) scored one run and had two RBIs for PC. Zac Rhinesmith (Acworth, Ga.) scored two runs on Friday afternoon for PC.

William Bolchoz (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) collected one hit and one RBI in the game. Bolchoz has now hit safely in five consecutive contests.

No Bulldog finished with multiple hits as the PC pitching staff held The Citadel to just five hits in the game. PC had eight hits.

The Bulldogs had to hold off a furious late-inning PC rally to earn the victory over the Blue Hose on Friday.

The Citadel raced out to a 7-0 lead in the first six innings before PC was finally able to plate two runs in the top of the seventh inning.

The Bulldogs early game rally was highlighted by a Matt Arnold two RBI triple and a two-run home run by Chris Swauger. It was the eighth home run of the season for Swauger.

Bolchoz picked up the first run of the game for the Blue Hose when he grounded out to The Citadel third baseman to score Jared Combs (Pooler, Ga.), who had started the inning for PC by walking.

Henry then singled through the right side for PC to score Rhinesmith and net PC's second run of the seventh inning.

The score 7-2, The Citadel was able to claim two runs in the bottom of the eighth to extend their lead to 9-2. It would prove to be much-needed for the Bulldogs as the Blue Hose scored four runs in the top half of the final stanza.

Craven singled up the middle to score the final two of PC's runs in the game. Craven's single scored Robbie Anders (Greenville, S.C.) and Henry.

The Blue Hose and Bulldogs conclude the three-game series with a 1 p.m. contest on Saturday, May 17.

The game will be the final contest of PC's inaugural NCAA Division I baseball campaign.
