CHARLESTON, S.C. ? Presbyterian College concluded its inaugural NCAA Division I campaign on Saturday with an 11-1 loss to The Citadel at Riley Park.
The Blue Hose end the 2008 season overall at 13-40. The Blue Hose picked up eight of their 13 wins in the friendly confines of the PC Baseball Complex.
PC was 8-8 at its home stadium.
PC acquired two home series victories in 2008 by taking out of three games from Marist and Savannah State at the PC Baseball Complex.
PC's individual highlight of the 2008 campaign came from the bat of Cory Lyda (Simpsonville, S.C.), who picked up PC's longest hitting streak of the season at 15 games.
Lyda's 15-game hitting streak tied for the longest consecutive hitting streak in Elton Pollock's four years at the helm of the Blue Hose. Matt Bodie (Aiken, S.C.) also hit in 15 consecutive games during Pollock's first year in charge of the Blue Hose in 2005.
On Saturday, PC was led by Preston Simpson (Lancaster, S.C.) and Jared Combs (Pooler, Ga.), who both had two hits each for the Blue Hose. Robbie Anders (Greenville, S.C.), Steven Henry (Hoschton, Ga.), Casey Carlson (Lexington, S.C.), Zac Rhinesmith (Acworth, Ga.) and Kyle Craven (Savannah, Ga.) all had one hit for PC in the loss.
Henry picked up PC's only run of the game on Saturday when hit a home run to left field in the top of the fifth inning. The home run was Henry's third and final home run of the year.
The Citadel had four players with two hits each on Saturday led by shortstop Kyle Jordan, who also scored two runs and had two RBIs.
The Bulldogs conclude their regular season at 28-27. They will host the SoCon Baseball Championships this upcoming week at Riley Park.
