RADFORD, Va. ? The Presbyterian College men's tennis team dropped a hard
fought 7-0 contest to No. 47 Radford Saturday afternoon in a Big South
Conference contest.
The Blue Hose are now 3-9 on the season and are 0-2 in the Big South Conference. The
Highlanders improve to 10-2 on the year and remain unbeaten at 2-0 in league play.
In doubles
play, Andrew Lee and Brad Luciuk had the best opportunity for head coach Patric
Hynes' squad. The duo took Igor Ogrizek and Stefan Bojic to an 8-4 set at No.
3. The duo of Michael Nicol and Patrick Fediuk lost an 8-3 decision to Ivan
Salec and Mehdi Benahmmou at the No. 2 position.
Top-seeded
Matthew Martin and Zachary Sprouse fell by an 8-2 count to No. 50 Martin Sayer
and Zack Watson.
Trailing 1-0 heading into doubles play, PC's best match came at the No. 3 slot.
There, Fediuk pushed Bojic to a 6-4, 6-3 match, but was unable to come out on
top. Second-seeded Nicol pulled off two games in each set against Salec while
Martin faced No. 120 Sayer at the No. 1 spot. Martin dropped his match by
scores of 6-0, 6-1.
At the No.
4 position, Sprouse lost 6-1, 6-2, to Benhammou. After dropping the first set
6-1 at the No. 5 slot, Lee pushed Ogrizek to a 6-4 set in what turned out to be
the finale for the pair. Mark Cannatelli lost his match to Watson 6-0, 6-0.
The Blue Hose return to action March 24 when they play host to UNC Asheville at
2 p.m.
