Blue Hose Blast Bulldogs For First Win Over The Citadel Since 1928

CLINTON, S.C. ? The Presbyterian College baseball team snapped an 18-game losing streak to The Citadel, which spanned 81 years, Tuesday afternoon in the team's last home baseball game of the year by a 12-6 count.

The two redshirt-seniors for PC each garnered three hits while Gabe Grammer pounded out four. Grammer was just a homer shy of the cycle as he drove in three and scored three times. Combs drove in two as did Tony Micklon and Andrew Williams. Williams, Hite, Combs, Harmon and Bryant all scored once.

However, Rhinesmith crossed home four times and Grammer came around three times.

Jesse Harmon's single pulled the home team within one, 4-3. Then, catcher Micklon drilled a two-out double to the left field fence as the Blue Hose took the lead.

Both student-athletes came around to score on Andrew Williams' double for a 7-4 advantage. Lyda drove home Williams for the three-run margin after four complete innings.

The Bulldogs cut the deficit to three in the fifth by plating a run. However, PC got the run back in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, Rhinesmith singled to right. Then, Grammer smashed a triple to the right centerfield gap, making the score 9-5.

With one away in the sixth, Andrew Foushee forced a deep fly to center field by Bryan Altman. Lyda took the ball and rifled it to Combs, who tagged Kyle Jordan going to third for the final out. Combs tagged him just before Sid Fallaw crossed home plate, keeping the score at 9-5.

PC continued to batter the Bulldogs in the seventh. Bryant smashed a double with two away. He moved to third on Rhinesmith's infield single that caromed off the pitcher. Then, Grammer belted a double to right field, plating two. He came around to score when Williams reached on an error for a seven-run advantage, 12-5.
