ATHENS, Ga. - A
half inning after PC leveled the score at 3-3, Georgia exploded for eight runs
in the bottom of the seventh to end PC's upset bid on Wednesday night at UGA's
Foley Field. The Blue Hose fall to 1-3
on the year while Georgia improves to 3-2.
PC's starting pitcher, Jesse Harmon, had a rough opening
inning, surrendering a quick three runs to Georgia, only one earned, before
settling down to work five innings. The
senior scattered six hits and fanned seven Bulldogs.
The Blue Hose grabbed two runs back in the third inning when
Nate Chong's third double of the season pushed Gabe Grammer across. Chong was plated two batters later on a
sacrifice fly by Tony Micklon.
The equalizer for the Blue Hose came in the seventh after
Grammer doubled and was worked around ultimately by Mack Hite's groundout.
The run removed Harmon from the decision, but the tie was
short-lived as the Bulldogs struck back for seventh in the bottom of the frame. Two singles, a fielder's choice and a double
were enough to end the night for PC reliever Steven Richardson who left with
one-plus inning of work. The sophomore
was charged with the loss to fall to 0-2 on the year.
PC used two additional pitchers to get out of the inning and
gave set a season high for runs allowed in an inning.
Grammer led the Blue Hose in batting with a 2-for-4 night at
the plate, scoring two of PC's runs.
The Blue Hose will return home before traveling to play
three games at Davidson. The series
opener will be against Mount St. Mary's on Saturday at noon, followed by a 3
p.m. game against hosts Davidson and a Sunday finale at 4 p.m. against the
Wildcats.
