DAVIDSON, N.C. - Presbyterian
College Baseball dropped a neutral site game to Mount St. Mary's, 6-5 and a
road game to Davidson, 15-8 on Saturday afternoon at Davidson's Wilson
Field. In the opener, a pair of late
runs weren't enough to overcome a three-run seventh by the Mount. In the late game, Davidson scored three runs
in three separate innings to overwhelm the visitors from Clinton.
PC (1-5) was led in the opener by Mack Hite with a 4-for-5
game and Tony Micklon at 3-for-5. Both
Blue Hose batters slugged two doubles.
The Blue Hose tied the score twice in the game with a pair
of runs in the third and again in the sixth with a single run. It was the Mount who blew the game open with a
two-run home run an additional insurance run in the seventh inning.
In both the eighth and ninth innings, PC scored a lone run
to chop into the Mount St. Mary's lead.
The Blue Hose had a chance to level the score for a third time in the
ninth, but instead popped out and grounded out to first base with the bases
loaded to end the game.
Chris Powell took the loss on the hill to fall to 0-1 on the
season after Steven Richardson worked five innings, allowing three runs, two
earned off eight hits. Powell worked two
innings and gave up the three unearned runs in the seventh inning.
In the second game, Davidson scored in every inning but the
second to take the win over PC. Nate
Chong and Hite both ripped their fourth doubles of the season while Ryan Morris
stroked two for extra bases. Morris went
2-for-4 with two runs scored while Chong was 2-for-5 in the game. Tony Micklon also had a 2-for-5 game while
Nate Horton scored a pair of runs for PC from his backstop position.
Davidson went out to a 5-0 lead through four before PC
brought one back in the fifth. The
Wildcats held serve with one in the fifth as PC scored five in the sixth for
the largest inning of the game. Up 8-6,
Davidson added three in the sixth, one in the seventh and three more in the
eighth to put the game out of reach. The
only answer for the Blue Hose was a pair in the eighth.
On the hill, Jordan Pace started and worked the first three
innings. He gave up five runs, all
earned off five hits while walking four. He took the loss to fall to 1-1 on the
year. Six of PC's seven pitchers in the game
allowed runs as the hurlers could not quell the Wildcat bats.
The Blue Hose will look to even the season series against
Davidson on Sunday afternoon with a 4 p.m.
game against the Wildcats.
