DAVIDSON, N.C. - For the second consecutive day,
Presbyterian College baseball fell to the Davidson Wildcats on the road by an
11-5 deficit. The loss is PC's fourth
straight defeat after the Blue Hose won their home opener a week ago.
After giving
up two runs in the first inning, the Blue Hose answered by scoring a run when
Nate Horton took advantage of some wild Davidson pitching in the second. On the next pitch after Horton crossed the
plate, Gabe Grammer went yard to right field for a two-run home run.
In the
third, PC added to the lead when Mack Hite ripped a double down the left field
line. He was plated on Horton's single
up the middle to give the visitors a 4-2 lead.
Unfortunately
for the Blue Hose, the tables were about to turn in the bottom of the third
inning. Davidson scored twice in the
frame to tie the game up. In the fourth
and fifth innings, the Wildcats scored two in each inning to run the score out
to 8-4.
PC answered
with a run in the sixth as Grammer's third RBI of the afternoon sent Ryan
Morris home to bring the margin down to three at 8-5.
The Wildcats
hit their third home run of the game in the eighth inning as part of a
three-run trip to bat. The insurance
runs extended the lead out to 11-5.
Andrew
Foushee earned the start on the mound and worked four and a third innings,
surrendering eight runs on nine hits. He
was saddled with the loss, his first of the season. Rodney Scruggs worked the remaining balance
of the game (three and two-thirds) and gave up three runs, two earned off four
hits.
The Blue
Hose will look to snap the four-game losing streak on Tuesday night at I-26
rival, South Carolina. The game will
start at 7 p.m. in Columbia.
