ORLANDO,
Fla. - Presbyterian College baseball
dropped a 15-1 decision to UCF on Friday night in the opener of a three-game
set. The series continues with a
Saturday matinee starting at 4 p.m. before concluding on Sunday with a 1 p.m.
finale.
Both teams went quietly in the first
frame, but it was UCF (11-8) that struck first with a single run in the second
inning. The Blue Hose (5-11) struck back
with an equalizer in the third inning.
Gabe Grammer was plated from second base on a single to right by Nate
Horton.
Unfortunately for the Blue Hose, the run
would be all PC could manage in the game. UCF would add three runs in the
third, a run in the fifth and three more in the seventh to chase PC's starting
pitcher, Jesse Harmon. The Blue Hose
hurler went five and two-thirds allowing eight runs, six earned off nine hits
while fanning five UCF batters.
The Knights had another run in the
seventh, but put the game on ice in the eighth with six runs off seven
hits.
Harmon fell to 1-3 with the loss while
UCF's Dew Owen got the win to improve to 3-1.
Grammer went 2-for-3 on the game while four other PC batters logged hits
to account for the Blue Hose's six hits for the game. Derek Luciano was 4-for-5 for UCF to take top
honors at the plate.
The series continues on Saturday
afternoon with a 4 p.m. matinee between the Knights and Blue Hose.
