CLINTON, S.C. - Presbyterian College got a solid
outing from senior starter Jesse Harmon but couldn't produce enough runs as EKU
topped PC, 9-4. The loss hands the
Colonels the series win after PC won the series opener in extra innings.
Harmon went
to the hill for the rubber match of the weekend series for PC (2-9). The hurler was perfect the first time through
the order, dismissing the Colonels (4-3) in order, three by strikeout. However, the fourth inning wasn't as kind to
the righty. EKU tallied four runs off
three hits in the frame to take a 4-0 lead.
After the Blue
Hose were dismissed in the fourth, PC struck back for two in the fifth
inning. Mack Hite's single to right sent
Alex Loftin and Harmon and cut the EKU lead in half.
Two more EKU
runs in the seventh ended Harmon's day on the mound after six and a third
innings of work. He left allowing five
hits and six runs, all earned in the outing.
Harmon struck out eight batters in the game and was saddled with the
loss to fall to 0-2 on the season.
The Colonels
added one insurance run in the eighth and two more in the ninth to take a 9-2
lead with PC coming to bat in the final half inning.
With
two-down in the ninth and Harmon on first base, Aaron Preston belted his second
home run in as many days to cut the EKU lead to 9-4. In the series, PC scored eighth total runs in
the ninth inning with the three on Friday forcing an extra frame.
EKU's
Anthony Bazzani went seven innings for the Colonels to take his first win of
the season and improve to 1-1 on the season.
The Blue
Hose return from an off-day on Monday to host Appalachian State on Tuesday
afternoon at 2 p.m.
