GREENVILLE, S.C. - For the second time this season, Presbyterian College
baseball has downed the Furman Paladins.
Wednesday's win came by a 9-4 margin and ensured a season series victory
for the Blue Hose over their I-385 rival.
The win snaps a three-game skid as PC improves to 9-23 on the year.
After Furman (11-22) posted a run in the
first, PC bounced back with two runs in the second. Nate Horton brought both Kenny Bryant and
Tony Micklon home as PC took a 2-1 lead.
The Blue Hose went up 3-1 when Bryant
plated Jesse Harmon with a single to right field. The RBI moved Bryant into a share of the team
lead in the category with Horton at 20 RBI.
Furman equalized in the third with two
runs in the third frame. The Blue Hose
grabbed the lead back in the top of the fourth inning thanks to Aaron Preston's
third home run of the season over the right field fence. His fourth home run moves him into first
place on the team.
In the sixth inning, Gabe Grammer
cleared the bases with a three-run double to the gap in right. He brought Horton, Preston and Alex Loftin
home and gave PC a 7-3 lead.
Furman scored once in the seventh, just
after the stretch, to cut the lead back to three runs but it was a pair of
unearned insurance runs that put the Blue Hose up 9-3. With the bases loaded, Aaron Preston grounded
to third but an errant throw from third to the plate allowed Tony Micklon and
Bryant to cross on the throwing error.
Andrew Foushee got the start and went
the first two innings before making way for Steven Richardson. Foushee allowed one run off two hits in the
outing, striking out three in the process.
Richardson worked an inning and two-thirds to pick up his second win of
the season. Rodney Scruggs went four and
two-thirds striking out three while Jordan Pace came in to nail down the final
two outs.
Presbyterian College returns to league
play this weekend with a series against Charleston Southern. The set starts on Friday afternoon at 3
p.m. Next Thursday, PC will go for the
sweep over Furman at the Greenville Drive Stadium starting at 6 p.m. The Scotsman
Club will host a pre-game event at the Spinx 500 Club starting at 5 p.m.
