CONWAY, S.C. - Presbyterian college baseball couldn't keep the
nationally ranked Coastal Carolina Chanticleers in check on Friday evening,
falling 14-1 on the road. The PC offense
was unable to get going on the day, only managing two hits off the Coastal
pitching staff.
After Coastal went up 3-0 in the first,
PC answered with a run in the third frame.
Aaron Preston walked to open the inning and was moved around to third
with a pair of wild pitches. Gabe
Grammer brought the redshirt freshman home with a ground ball to second
base. The RBI was Grammer's ninth of the
season.
The Chanticleers extended the lead in
the bottom of the third with three more runs.
In the fourth, Ryan Morris ended Coastal's no-hit bid with a single
through the left side. He would advance
to second on a walk and around to third on Derek Herron's single through the
left side. Untimely strikeouts would
allow the Chanticleers to escape the inning without a PC run.
A walk to Mack Hite would be PC's final
baserunner in the fifth inning.
Meanwhile, Coastal would score once in the fourth, three in the sixth
and four in the seventh to take the final 14-1 decision.
Jesse Harmon got the start on the hill
for the Blue Hose and went five innings in the loss to fall to 1-4 on the
year. He allowed eight runs, all earned
off six hits while striking out four and walking four. Chris Powell worked the final three innings
and fanned two down the stretch.
The series wraps up on Saturday
afternoon with a afternoon doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
