CLINTON, S.C. - After the Blue Hose put up
a valiant fight on Friday, Presbyterian College baseball was no match for
Liberty in game two of the weekend series, falling by a 13-0 line. The game, slated to be the opener of a
Saturday doubleheader became a single game after the series finale was
postponed due to rain. The three-game
set will conclude on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Liberty
(28-11, 11-3 BSC) got on the board with one run in the first inning before
being quelled by PC's (11-27, 3-11 BSC) starting pitcher Jesse Harmon. The PC senior conceded the run before
stranding two and keeping the Flames scoreless in the next two frames even with
runners in scoring position.
Harmon gave up
two in the fourth off three hits from the first four batters before retiring
the side only down 3-0. He was unable to
survive the fifth inning however, as Liberty went for six runs to take a 9-0
lead. Harmon left after four and two
thirds innings of work allowing eight runs, four earned off nine hits. He struck out five but took the loss to fall
to 2-6 on the year.
The Blue Hose
offense sputtered on the day after cashing in for seven runs off 11 hits a day
prior. PC tallied five hits in the game,
never having more than one in an inning and not advancing past second base
after the first inning. Designated
Hitter Ryan Morris earned two hits in the game to lead the Blue Hose.
Liberty added
one run in the sixth and three in the ninth to accumulate its 13 run total in
the game.
Shawn Teufel
went the distance for the Flames on the hill to improve to 8-1 on the
year.
Due to the
postponement of Saturday's second game, the teams will return to the diamond on
Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. for the series finale between the Liberty Flames and
the Presbyterian College Blue Hose.
