CLINTON, S.C. - Presbyterian College didn't waste any time in downing
USC Upstate on Wednesday afternoon, 3-1 to take the season series over the
Spartans by a 2-1 margin. The game was played at a brisk 1:58 as the Blue Hose
improve to 8-20 and USC Upstate falls to 9-24 on the campaign.
Both teams went quietly in the first two
innings until the Spartans utilized two singles to left field and a stolen base
to take a 1-0 lead off starting pitcher Chris Powell.
PC responded in kind in the bottom of
the frame with a two-spot. Ryan Morris
doubled and was sent home by Jesse Harmon's first triple of the season. Gabe
Grammer grounded out to first base as Harmon raced home to beat the double-play
attempt at the dish.
Two more open frames passed before the
Blue Hose scored their third run of the day. Gabe Grammer walked to open the
inning and was moved around the bases as PC played small ball. He came home on
a Kenny Bryant single up the middle.
Powell went seven strong innings and
scattered five hits allowing just the lone run. He fanned seven Spartans to
improve his team high record to 4-1. Jordan Pace nailed down the one-pitch
save, his first of the season. The Blue Hose pitching staff did not allow a
walk in the game for just the sixth time this season.
The Blue Hose return to action this
weekend with a three-game set against UNC Asheville. The action begins on
Friday with a 3 p.m. start followed by a 2 p.m. Saturday game which follows the
Spring Football Game. Sunday's series finale will be Senior Day and starts at 1
p.m. The Blue Hose Baseball Parents Association will be running a concession
stand with proceeds going to the PC Baseball Program.
