CLINTON, S.C. - Presbyterian College
baseball surrendered 17 runs on Saturday afternoon to the High Point Panthers
to drop the second game of the final home series, 17-3 at the PC Baseball
Complex. The Blue Hose allowed 13 hits
while pounding out six hits of their own on the afternoon.
PC (12-37, 4-19
BSC) was hot out of the gate to take a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning. Gabe Grammer legged out a single to the
shortstop before reaching second base by way of a throwing error by the High Point
shortstop. He was plated by the next
batter, Kenny Bryant, on the first baseman's RBI single to center field.
The lead was
short-lived as the Panthers (26-25, 12-11 BSC) roared back with five runs in
the second inning followed by three more in the third inning as High Point went
up, 8-1 after two and a half innings.
In the bottom
of the third, Nate Horton grabbed a run back for the Blue Hose with his home
run down the right field line. His fifth
bomb of the season cut the HPU advantage to 8-2.
Two runs in
the fourth an another in the sixth inning for High Point extended the lead out
to 11-2.
Three walks to
open PC's half of the sixth inning put the bases loaded for Jesse Harmon at the
plate. The Blue Hose left fielder lobbed
a sacrifice fly center, plating Tony Micklon from third base. The run made the score 11-3.
High Point
tacked on three insurance runs in both the eighth and ninth innings to make the
final score 17-3 in favor of the visitors.
Joe Hammond
took the loss for PC to fall to 0-6 on the season. HPU's Schultz earned the win to improve to
5-0 on the season.
PC will face
HPU in the home finale for the Blue Hose starting at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon
from the PC Baseball Complex.
