RADFORD, Va. - Presbyterian College baseball
suffered a setback on Saturday afternoon by dropping a 12-1 loss to the Radford
Highlanders on a blustery Saturday in Southwestern Virginia. Kenny Bryant was the shining light for the
Blue Hose by nailing one of PC's five hits over the right field fence.
Radford (25-20,
12-8 BSC) ran out to a 7-0 lead before the Blue Hose could get onto the
board. The Highlanders rattled off three
runs in the second frame and added four more in the fourth inning to take a 7-0
lead after just four innings.
PC (12-21,
4-16 BSC) got into the scoring column in the sixth inning as Bryant crushed his
third home run of the season over the right field fence. The hit came a day after the Blue Hose first
baseman saw his 15-game hit streak snapped in the series opener. The run cut the Radford lead to 7-1.
The
Highlanders would respond with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to go up
8-1. Radford would tack on four
insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth to secure the 12-1 victory.
Starting pitcher
Jesse Harmon took the loss to fall to 2-7 on the season. The senior went three and two-thirds innings,
allowing seven runs off seven hits. He
struck out five in the outing. Radford's
Eddie Butler went the distance to take the complete game victory and improve to
6-3. He stymied the Blue Hose to just
five hits while striking out ten batters and walking just two.
The series
concludes on Sunday afternoon with a finale matinee starting at 1 p.m.
