Jordan Pace (Charleston, S.C.) threw a complete game, giving up just two runs off seven hits, while Brad Zebedis (Rock Hill, S.C.) added a two-run home run in the third, leading the Presbyterian College baseball team to the 3-2 win over VCU this afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex in Clinton, S.C.
With the win, PC takes two of three against VCU and improves its record to 6-6. The Rams fall to 4-6.
In a game delayed thirty minutes due to inclement weather, the Blue Hose broke open a scoreless game with three runs in the third inning. Andrew Williams (Augusta, Ga.) led the scoring off with a single to center field. After he stole second, he came home off a single by Gabe Grammer (Irmo, S.C.). Grammer scored when Zebedis launched a shot over the left field wall as PC took the 3-0 lead.
VCU fought back in the top of the ninth when John Lenherr tripled down the right field line and drove in Brent Mikionis. Lenherr then scored when Joey Cujas grounded to second base. That would be it as VCU flied out to center the next at bat to end the game.
Pace picked up his first win of the season to go to 1-1 on the year. He went nine innings, and posted four strikeouts. Blake Hauser took the loss for VCU, going 4.0 innings, striking out five and giving up three runs off five hits.
Lenherr went three-for-four with one RBI to lead VCU, while Zebedis paced PC with a one-for-four effort and two RBI.
PC is next in action Wednesday, March 9, when it hosts Furman. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at the PC Baseball Complex.
