The Presbyterian College baseball team scattered seven hits but stranded 10 runners en route to the 13-2 loss at The Citadel in action this afternoon at Joseph P. Riley, Jr., Park in Charleston, S.C.
The Blue Hose fell to 18-24, while the Bulldogs improved to 17-24. The two teams will meet again Sunday, May 1, in a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. The games will be broadcast on the internet at www.GoBlueHose.com.
Andrew Williams (Augusta, Ga.) led off the game with a double to right field. After being sacrificed to second he scored when Tony Micklon singled to The Citadel shortstop.
The Citadel answered in the bottom of the first when Nick Orvin hit his seventh home run of the season, this one a solo shot to left field.
The Bulldog runs continued to add up, as they scored 12 runs over the next seven innings, with two in the second, six in the third, three in the seventh and one in the eighth to take a 13-1 lead heading into the ninth.
PC plated a run in the top of the ninth when Aaron Killingsworth (Atlanta, Ga.) reached first on a hit by pitch and scored off a single by Alex Loftin (Denver, N.C.).
Jordan Pace (Charleston, S.C.) started for the Blue Hose and went 2.1 innings, giving up eight runs off eight hits for the loss (2-6). The Citadel's Matt Talley threw 6.0 innings, surrendering one run on six hits for the win (3-5).
Tony Micklon (Sumter, S.C.) led PC, going three-for-three with one RBI.
