CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College baseball team
trailed by one run after five innings on Saturday to Coastal Carolina in the
second game of its weekend series, but the Chanticleers pulled away to win,
15-3.
PC moves to 18-14 and 4-7 in Big South play, while Coastal
improves to 20-11 and 6-2 in league action.
Andrew Williams (Augusta, Ga.) posted two hits on Saturday
to extend his hitting streak to 12 games, the longest of any member of the Blue
Hose this season. Gabe Grammer (Irmo, S.C.) also collected two hits in the
game.
Ryan Burt (Cayce, S.C.) entered the game at first base
midway through the game and proved productive at the plate, going deep to right
field in the bottom of the ninth for his first home run of the season.
Tyler Hill (Goose Creek, S.C.) hit safely in his fourth
consecutive game and drove in a run as well.
Coastal took a 3-0 lead through the first five innings by
scoring solo runs in the second, third and fifth, but the Blue Hose responded
in the bottom of the frame to claw back within one.
Brandon Paul (Augusta, Ga.) began the rally by singling
through the left side before moving to second on a Grammer single up the
middle. Nate Horton (Spartanburg, S.C.) then reached first as Coastal third
baseman Scott Woodward's throw pulled the first baseman off the bag and allowed
the Blue Hose to load the bases.
Hill took advantage of the situation and brought Paul home
on a fielder's choice, making the score 3-1.
The next batter, John Wagner (Olney, Md.), sent a deep fly
ball to centerfield that allowed Grammer to tag up as the Blue Hose pulled
within one, 3-2.
Coastal Carolina scored eight runs in the sixth and four in
the seventh before Burt went yard to score a run for the Blue Hose.
Starting pitcher Matt Rein earned the win for the
Chanticleers while Bud Jeter (Columbia, S.C.) saw his record move to 4-3.
PC returns for the final game of the series tomorrow at 1
p.m.
