PC Men's Tennis Falls To Davidson, Richmond

DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Presbyterian College took the doubles point against Richmond and a singles match against Davidson in contests on Saturday afternoon, but fell to the two opponents by 4-1 margins.

PC moves to 4-2 after the day's action. Richmond improves to 4-4 and Davidson improves to 2-3.

The day began with the Blue Hose squaring off against the Richmond Spiders. PC started off in promising fashion by taking the doubles point thanks to an 8-2 top flight win by Grayson Mills (Lilburn, Ga.) and Rafael Berghaus (Offenbach, Germany) over Sebastien Fauchet and Jesse Feder, followed by Andrew Brigham (Birmingham, England) and Edward Snead IV (Greenwood, S.C.) knocking off Ethan Dunbar and Paul Nahon III at No. 3, 8-6.

With doubles point in hand, Zachary Sprouse (Hilton Head, S.C.) and William O'Connell's (Nadi, Fiji) match against Aaron Wicker and Dylan Trent went unfinished.

In singles play, Dunbar bested Berghaus in a battle at No. 1. Dunbar took the first set, 6-1, but Berghaus rallied to win the second, 6-4. Dunbar got the best of the Blue Hose in the third, however, 6-3. At No. 2, Fauchet held off Mills in another close contest, 7-5, 6-4.

The Spiders then took the next two matches to clinch the win as Feder knocked off O'Connell, 6-1, 6-3, and Wicker downed Snead, 6-0, 6-1. The fifth and sixth flight matches went unfinished.

Later in the day, PC matched up against the Davidson Wildcats. The Blue Hose took one match thanks to Mills' third-flight win over Calum Gee. Mills cruised to a 6-2 win in set number one before holding off Gee in the second set, 7-5. The win evened Mills' season singles record to 3-3 on the year.

In doubles, the Wildcats took a pair of matches where the Blue Hose won at least four games. Davidson's No. 19 pair of Gee and Joe Schafer took down Mills and Berghaus at the top flight, 8-4, while Snead and Brigham battled but came up short to Connor Evins and Chris Mark, 8-5.

Davidosn then took three singles contests to clinch the match. Berghaus dropped a top-flight match to Chris Mark, 6-2, 6-2, and Joe Schafer pushed past O'Connell, 6-3, 7-5.

At No. 4, Snead fell to Nicky Kunz, 6-2, 6-2.

PC men's tennis returns to action on Tuesday at home against USC Upstate. The match is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
