MACON, Ga. - The Presbyterian College baseball team fell in the second game of its weekend series to Mercer on Saturday afternoon, 9-3.
PC moves to 0-6 on the year. Mercer improves to 7-1.
Kenny Bryant (Goose Creek, S.C.) and Tyler Hill (Goose Creek, S.C.) each went two-for four at the plate. Hill, Brandon Martin (Gray Court, S.C.) and Andrew Williams (Augusta, Ga.) each drove in a run for the Blue Hose.
Martin hit his first career home run with a solo shot in the fourth inning.
Chandler Knox (Columbia, S.C.) took the loss for PC in four innings of work.
Mercer took a 4-0 lead through two innings, using an RBI double to grab a run in the first before posting three runs in the second on three hits and error.
The Blue Hose answered with a run in the fourth off of Martin's leadoff home run. PC put two more on base but could not bring anyone home to cut into the Bears' lead.
Mercer got the run back in the bottom of the frame before scoring two more in the fifth on a two-run single.
PC's biggest inning came in the top of the seventh. Bryant led off with a bunt single and Jay Lizanich (Greer, S.C.) moved him over with a single to left.
A fielder's choice put runners on the corners to set up an RBI single from Hill. The hit moved Gabe Grammer (Irmo, S.C.) to third and the senior came home on a Williams single that pulled PC within four, 7-3.
Mercer cut PC's comeback bid short by scoring two in the eighth on a two-out home run from Derrick Workman.
The Blue Hose take on Mercer in the series finale Sunday at 1 p.m.
