MACON, Ga. - The Presbyterian College baseball team wrapped its series against Mercer on Sunday with a 10-3 defeat at Claude Smith Field.
PC moves to 0-7 on the year while Mercer improves to 8-1.
Tony Micklon (Sumter, S.C.) hit his first home run of the season while freshman Jay Lizanich (Greer, S.C.) went 3-for-4 from the leadoff spot.
Gabe Grammer (Irmo, S.C.) and Kenny Bryant (Goose Creek, S.C.) each posted two hits as well.
Lefthander Chad Sanders (St. Simons Island, Ga.) took the loss in his first career start, going four and a third against the Bears.
Mercer's Evan Boyd went 4-for-5 and hit his first home run of the season. Dawson Brown received the win in three and a third innings of relief.
PC left 10 men on base while Mercer stranded 11. The Bears collected 18 hits on the day and the Blue Hose tallied a season-high 11.
Mercer took a 5-0 lead after the first two innings, tagging PC for three in the first and two in the second.
PC got on the scoreboard in the fourth, as Micklon went yard to left field with a leadoff home run and Kenny Bryant (Goose Creek, S.C.) came home on a Robby Swab (Kemersville, N.C) sacrifice fly.
The Bears took one back in the bottom of the frame. Mercer used three hits to score DJ Johnson from third and take a 6-2 lead after four.
PC appeared poised for a big inning in the fifth, loading the bases with nobody out. Micklon hit a ball in play but the Bears went home to get the force out and keep PC off of the scoreboard. With the bags full and one out, Bryant took a ball deep to centerfield for a sacrifice fly that scored Andrew Williams (Augusta, Ga.) and pulled PC to within three, 6-3.
The home team scored one in the fifth and two more in the sixth before notching one final run in the eighth.
The Blue Hose return to action on Tuesday when they travel to two-time defending national champion No. 3 South Carolina for a 4 p.m. start.
