PC Baseball Set to Visit No. 3 South Carolina, Host Wofford

CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College baseball team (0-7) returns to the state of South Carolina to play No. 3 South Carolina on Tuesday in Columbia 4 p.m. before hosting Wofford at the PC Baseball Complex at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. The Blue Hose will look for the first win of the 2012 season after dropping a three-game series to Mercer over the weekend.

John Avery and Zack Compton will have the call of Tuesday's game on a free audio broadcast on GoBlueHose.com.

PC will look for its first win over the Gamecocks since 1948 as the Blue Hose trail in the all-time series, 19-42. South Carolina took a 6-1 decision last season on May 10, 2011 and two sides have met seven times since PC's 1-0 win in Clinton on April 27, 1948. PC nearly took the 2008 matchup, falling 2-1 in 10 innings on March 10, and lost the 2009 game by one run, 6-5. The Blue Hose trail Wofford in the all-time series, 44-63, after dropping last year's first game (5-1) and winning the next two (6-4, 4-0).

Freshman lefthander Beau Dees will make his first career start on Tuesday against the Gamecocks. Dees has appeared in two games this season, allowing thiree hits and striking out five over three and two-thirds innings. Sophomore righthander Chad White will take the mound on Wednesday, making his third appearance after allowing four runs (three earned) in two and two-thirds innings.

South Carolina enters Tuesday's game with a No. 3 national ranking from Baseball America and a 6-0 record after sweeping VMI and Elon to start the season. Christian Walker leads the team with a .381 batting average and eight RBI.

Wofford will bring a 3-3 record to Clinton after wins against Dayton, Pittsburgh and Gardner-Webb. The Terriers' trip to the PC Baseball Complex will mark the squad's second road game fo the season. Stephen Cantrell leads the team with a .529 batting average (9-17) and a .765 slugging percentage.

Freshman Jay Lizanich is tied for the team lead in batting average with a .292 marker, going 7-for-24 on the year. Lizanich led the team last week, going 5-for-14 against Furman and Mercer while taking four walks.

Senior outfielder Tony Micklon had a career year in 2011, earning All-Big South Conference Second Team honors after ranking second on the team in batting average (.343), runs (46), total bases (124), slugging percentage (.599), RBI (51) and on-base percentage (.418). Micklon is tied for the team lead in batting average, going .292 at the plate and pacing the squad with eight RBI.
