PC Baseball to Battle Clemson on Wednesday Night

CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College baseball team (9-17, 0-6) heads to Clemson, S.C. for a midweek matchup against the Clemson Tigers (11-11, 3-6 ACC) on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. PC will aim to end a seven-game losing skid after falling to VMI in three games over the weekend despite piling up 37 hits.

A live audio broadcast will be available on GoBlueHose.com.

PC trails Clemson in the all-time series, 60-20. Last year, the two teams split the season series as the Blue Hose knocked off then-ranked No. 16 Clemson, 4-3, in Greenville, S.C. Brad Zebedis, Aaron Preston and John Wagner drove in runs in the win, which marked PC's first over Clemson since 1949. Clemson took the second game on April 12 in Clemson, 7-2.

PC dropped three games to VMI over the weekend in Lexington, Va. The Blue Hose outhit or tied the Keydets in hits two games and posted at least 12 hits in all three games. PC held a 4-1 lead heading into the seventh inning in game number two, but two Keydet home runs in the eighth lifted the home side over PC.

Clemson enters the game with an 121-11 overall record and a 3-6 tally in the Atlantic Coast Conference after knocking off Georgia in Athens, Ga., 10-5. Virginia swept the Tigers in a three-game series over the weekend, ending a five-game Clemson win streak. Phil Pohl and Richie Shaffer lead the team with 23 and 20 RBI, respectively.

The Blue Hose stand tied with the Liberty Flames atop the Big South Conference in home runs, with 16 on the year, and nine different Blue Hose have gone yard this season with Brandon Paul's first career home run on Sunday.

Kenny Bryant took back the team lead for home runs, with one against Liberty on March 17 for his fourth homer of the year. He ranks tied for fourth in the Big South in that category as well. Andrew Williams ranks second on the squad and in the league after smacking a trio of homers against Kennesaw State on March 14, nearly matching his previous career total as he entered the night with four in his career. Bryant ranks second among all active players with 20 career home runs, while Tony Micklon leads the pack with 25. Gabe Grammer and Brad Zebedis check in in a tie for third, with 13.

Robby Swab saw his 12-game on-base streak come to end on Saturday. On Friday, he passed Andrew Williams (11 games) for longest on-base streak this season. Kenny Bryant now holds the team's longest active hitting streak, with six. Williams holds the longest hitting streak this season, with eight games.

Of the eight pitchers who have won games this year for the Blue Hose, five of them captured the first win of their careers. Beau Dees (at Kennesaw State, 3/14), Chad White (at Davidson, 3/4), Tim Corbin (at NC Central, 3/7), Ryan Morris (vs. Wofford, 2/29) and Chad Sanders (vs. NJIT, 3/11) all notched career firsts by collecting victories in 2012.

Over the last five games, Kenny Bryant leads the team with a .556 batting average (10-for-18) while Robby Swab's six RBI pace the team in that category. Jay Lizanich has also gone .474 at the plate (9-for-19), while Bryant has posted a .722 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base percentage, drawing five walks and a hit-by-pitch.
