Bucs Take Blue Hose in Extras

Charleston Southern scored three runs in the top of the 10th inning to rally past the Presbyterian College baseball team in a 7-4 10-inning win this afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex in Clinton, S.C.

PC falls to 17-22 overall and 5-9 in the Big South, while Charleston Southern moves to 16-26, 7-7.

PC took a 3-0 lead with a run in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings and looked to be in command of the game.  Brad Zebedis, who collected three hits in the game, drove in Motroni in the fifth after he singled to right center with one out on the board and advanced to third on a CSU error the same play.

The second run came from Gabe Grammer in the sixth inning after he doubled down the right field line and scored off a Jay Lizanich single.

Grammer, who went three-for-five with two RBI, knocked in Kenny Bryant, who had doubled to left three batters earlier.

Charleston Southern responded with four runs in the top of the eighth, two of them coming off a RBI single by Chase Shelton.  Walt Quattlebaum stepped in with a double down the left field line to drive in the third run, with the fourth coming in off a sacrifice fly by Robbie Street.

The Blue Hose tied it up, 4-4, in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings, however.  With bases loaded, Grammer hit a single to left center that brought home Aaron Preston.  That would be the only run of the inning as Bryant hit into a fielder's choice with the out being made at home, and Lizanich flied out to right to end the inning.

With bases loaded and with two outs for Charleston Southern in the top of the 10th, PC hit a batter to bring in a run and then walked the next two in to give the Bucs the 7-4 lead heading into the bottom of the inning.

The Blue Hose were unable to put runs together in the 10th and fell by the final of 7-4.

Corey Deighan (3-2) went 2.1 innings and gave up four hits and one earned run for the win.  Michael Ricchi (0-3) took the loss for PC, going 1.2 innings and surrendering one hit and two earned runs.

Chandler Knox started for the Blue Hose and scattered six hits and two earned runs with five strikeouts.

Motroni, Brad Zebedis, Bryant and Grammer led the Blue Hose offensively with three-for-five efforts

The two teams meet for the final time of the series with a 1 p.m. game Sunday, April 22.
