GARY, Ind. – Former Presbyterian College first baseman Kenny
Bryant (Goose Creek, S.C.) impressed in his first professional baseball game on
Friday night, going 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Gary (Ind.) SouthShore RailCats
of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball.
Bryant doubled in his first at-bat and singled in the sixth inning,
driving in a run to tie the game and set the stage for an eventual 8-3 RailCats
win over the St. Paul Saints. Bryant played first base and also scored a run in
the contest.
The former Blue Hose, who wrapped up his PC career in 2012, ranks
in the top five in at-bats (764), walks (99) and putouts (1,552) in the Presbyterian
College modern era. His final season saw him lead the squad in batting average
(.313), runs (30), hits (65), doubles (16), home runs (10), RBI (36), total
bases (113) and slugging percentage (.543) en route to a All-Big South
Conference First Team selection.
The Gary SouthShore RailCats played their first season in
2002 and won Northern League championships in 2005 and 2007 before moving to
the American Association in 2011. The RailCats play at U.S. Steel Yard in Gary,
Ind.
Friday's game marked the first of a four-game series against the Saints.
