Dowling Finishes Under Par To Set School Record, Earns Sixth

WAYNESVILLE, N.C. - Presbyterian College women's golfer Micah Dowling shot a school record of 143 (71, 72) to earn sixth place at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate on Monday. The Blue Hose finished eighth with a two-round score of 605 (306, 299).

Dowling (Orlando, Fla.) improved upon the school record that was set one year ago at the very same tournament by two strokes. In doing so, the senior became the first women's golfer in PC history to shoot under par for a full tournament. It also marked her third career top-ten finish, and first since her freshman year.

Freshman MJ Nogay (Silver Spring, Md.) had a great tournament of her own, tying for 24th with a collegiate-best score of 149 (77, 72). Senior Kim Carpenter (Tampa, Fla.) improved to shoot 156 (80, 76) and tie for 58th while junior Kalie Goodman (Easley, S.C.) shot 158 (78, 80) to tie for 60th. Junior Mary Kathryn Linder (Athens, Ga.) shot a collegiate-best round of 79 during the second round to also set a personal two-round best at 160 (81, 79) and tie for 62nd.

Morehead State (KY) shot one-under par (575; 288, 287) to take a seven-stroke win over Western Carolina. The Catamount's Taylor Allison and the Eagles' Linnea Scholin shot 4-under par to take co-medalist honors.

The Blue Hose will return to play at the Winthrop Intercollegiate in Rock Hill, S.C. from October 5-7.
