The Blue Hose dropped the first game despite taking an early
lead and tallying eight hits to the Tigers' seven.
Sophomore Beau Dees (Blenheim, S.C.) produced a solid
outing, allowing three earned runs over seven innings. Dees struck out a
career-high seven in the effort and issued no walks before Ryan Morris
(Jamestown, R.I.) took over for a perfect inning of relief.
PC struck for one run in the second inning. Paul led off
with a single to left center and took second on a fielder's choice. The
redshirt sophomore outfielder came home on a Lizanich single to left that put
two Blue Hose on the bases. PC eventually filled the bags but left them loaded
as a flyout ended the inning with PC ahead by one, 1-0.
The Blue Hose put two on in the fifth but could not convert
three hits into a run.
Savannah State would capitalize in the bottom of the frame,
taking advantage of four hits and an error to score all the runs it would need.
Mendez Elder hit a two-run single to give the Tigers the lead and make the
score its final tally, 3-1.
Both teams combined to leave only three men on base for the
rest of the day as Savannah State hung on for the victory.
Savannah State's Kyle McGowin took the win, pitching seven
innings and striking out seven as well.
