DURHAM, N.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team
finished a series sweep of North Carolina Central on Sunday by taking both
games of a doubleheader from the Eagles, 5-0 and 5-3.
PC improves to 4-4 overall and will take on Wofford on
Wednesday night at McNair Field in Forest City, N.C. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. NC Central,
who entered the series unbeaten, moves to 3-3.
The second game, scheduled for seven innings, saw the teams
battle to a 10-inning affair that ended with a pair of RBI singles for PC.
Brandon Martin (Gray Court, S.C.) went 5-for-9 in the two
games while Brad Zebedis (Rock Hill, N.C.) and freshman Ryan Hagan (Sugar Hill,
Ga.) each chipped in three RBI on the day. Chandler Knox (Columbia, S.C.) and Tim
Corbin (Murrells Inlet, S.C.) received the wins for their work on the mound.

The Blue Hose rolled to an opening win in the day's first
game, 5-0. Chandler Knox made the difference, shutting down the Eagles in eight
innings by allowing only five hits and no runs. The junior struck out three and
allowed only one walk before Chad Sanders (St. Simons Island, Ga.) entered for
an inning of scoreless relief.
Martin turned out a 3-for-4 effort while Zebedis came
through with three RBI.
PC put together runs in the second and third innings, beginning
with Brandon Paul (Augusta, Ga.) crossing home plate after an Eagles infield
error. The Blue Hose followed up in the third as Zebedis popped a fly deep to
centerfield to drive home Nathan Chong (Duluth, Ga.) to put the visitors ahead
by a pair.
The Blue Hose doubled their lead in the fifth. A Chong
double and a Martin walk put two aboard to Zebedis, who brought home the pair
on a base hit.
One final run in the seventh gave PC all the insurance it
would need. With two away, Martin again kick-started the offense with a single
and a stolen base. Zebedis cashed in with another single to send the sophomore
home as the pitching continued to slam the door on the Eagles en route to the
5-0 victory.

Bud Jeter (Columbia, S.C.) put together his second straight
impressive effort in the start. The junior followed up last weekend's complete
game with a seven-inning, three-run performance. Only one run counted as earned
Jeter struck out six before Corbin entered with an equally sterling outing,
pitching three perfect innings to get the win.
Four players tallied two hits apiece in game number two, led
by Hagan's two-for-three effort with a pair of RBI. Billy Motroni (Goose Creek,
S.C.), Aaron Preston (Goose Creek, S.C.) and Paul each drove in one run.
Tied 3-3 after six innings, PC eventually took the win in
the 10th. Zebedis singled to lead off the frame and Paul moved him
over with a sacrifice bunt before he took third on a Preston groundout. Facing
a two-out at bat, Robby Swab (Kernersville, N.C.) drew a walk and was replaced
on the basepaths by Trey Hayes (Belton, S.C.).
Hagan came through with a single to right field that put the
Blue Hose ahead and Motroni followed up with a single of his own to push PC's
lead to 5-3.
Corbin then shut down the Eagles in the bottom of the frame.
The senior forced three straight groundouts to seal the win and complete the
sweep.
PC went to work early, scoring a pair of runs on singles
from Paul and Preston to jump on the Eagles.
The Blue Hose added a run in the fourth on three hits,
scoring with a Hagan RBI sacrifice bunt. NC Central answered with three runs
over the fifth and sixth to eventually set up PC's 10th-inning
heroics.
