Terriers Edge Blue Hose, 8-6

The Presbyterian College baseball team rallied from an early 6-0 deficit and cut the Terrier lead to one in the fourth, but Wofford added two more in the seventh to hold the Blue Hose at bay and take the 8-6 win in action this afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex in Clinton, S.C.

The Blue Hose, who lost their first home game of the season, dropped to 13-9, while the Terriers improved to 9-13.  PC returns to league action this weekend as the Blue Hose travel to Winthrop Mar. 22-24, for a three-game series.  Friday's game begins at 6 p.m.

Dominick Del Monte earned the win, surrendering just three runs off five hits, to go to 1-2 on the season.  Eric Eck started the ninth inning and picked up the save (4) after retiring the side in order.

Brett Byrum started for PC and went two thirds of an inning for the loss (1-3).  He gave up five earned runs off three hits.  Michael Ricchi posted a solid performance in 3.1 innings of relief.  He gave up just one run off two hits.

Jay Lizanich went one-for-four, his hit a RBI double to left that gave PC its first run of the game.  Derek Long went one-for-three, his lone hit a two-RBI single to left center to cut the Wofford lead in half, 6-3, in the second inning.

Nate Chong recorded just one hit on the afternoon, but it was a two-RBI home run, his fourth of the season, to cut Wofford's lead to just one, 6-5 in the fourth inning.

Cam McRae recorded two hits on the afternoon, his second a single in the eighth inning that set up Lizanich's RBI ground out a batter later.

Wofford pounded out five hits in the first inning to take a 6-0 lead.  Highlighting the inning were three RBI singles and a three-RBI double by Demetrius Jennings.

The Terrier bats were silent for the next five innings, with Wofford collecting just one hit during the stretch.  Wofford led off the seventh with a walk, the second batter advancing on a PC error.  A base hit to first loaded the bases, with Seth Neely singling to the shortstop to drive in the Terriers' seventh run.  The eighth and final run came the next at-bat off a sacrifice fly from James Plaisted.

Three Wofford players recorded multiple hits with Jennings leading the way with his three RBI.
