PC Baseball Suffers Setback at No. 5 Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Presbyterian College baseball team fell to the No. 5 Florida State Seminoles on Wednesday night, 10-4.

PC moves to 8-6 on the year while Florida State improves to 12-0. The Blue Hose will next take on NJIT for a three-game series at Fleming Stadium in Wilson, N.C., this weekend. The two sides play one game on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. before meeting for an 11 a.m. doubleheader on Sunday.

Ryan Hagan (Sugar Hill, Ga.) led PC at the plate with a 2-for-3 effort while Billy Motroni (Goose Creek, S.C.) enjoyed a 2-for-4 day. Brad Zebedis (Rock Hill, S.C.) and Brandon Paul (Augusta, Ga.) each hit safely as well, with Zebedis registering two RBI.

Chad Sanders (St. Simons Island, Ga.) took the loss in one and two-thirds innings of work to move to 0-1 on the season. Michael Ricchi (McKinney, Texas) threw five innings of three-run ball while Michael Trebendis (Fayetteville, Ga.) pitched a perfect eighth inning. Tim Corbin (Murrells Inlet, S.C.) faced one Seminole and struck him out.

PC drew first blood by scoring one run in the second inning. Paul started the inning on a leadoff double and came home on a Hagan single through the left side to give PC a 1-0 lead.

Unfortunately for the Blue Hose, the Seminoles exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the frame. A two-run John Nogowski double and RBI singles from Stephen McGee, Jose Brizuela and Brett Knief helped anchor the scoring.

PC took one run back in the top of the third on a Zebedis double that brought around Motroni before the Seminoles plated two runs in the bottom of the frame on a Josh Delph home run.

The Blue Hose manufactured two runs in the fifth in their final scoring inning. Derek Long (Alpharetta, Ga.) took a plunking to go to first base and Motroni followed one out later with a single to right center. A passed ball moved the runners over and Zebedis sent a sacrifice fly to centerfield. Motroni then crossed home plate via a throwing error to make the score 9-4.

After Ricchi held the Seminoles scoreless for three straight innings, Florida State added one more run in the seventh to seal the win, 10-4.
