Blue Hose Baseball Falls to Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. – The Presbyterian College baseball team dropped a non-conference road game on Tuesday, falling to the Georgia Bulldogs at Foley Field by a 10-1 margin.

PC moves to 20-18 on the year and will head to Charleston, S.C. this weekend to face Charleston Southern in a weekend Big South series that begins on Friday at 3 p.m. Georgia improves to 14-24.

Four different Blue Hose picked up a hit in Jay Lizanich (Greer, S.C.), Brandon Martin (Gray Court, S.C.), Brandon Paul (Augusta, Ga.) and Robby Swab (Kernersville, N.C.). Paul picked up the team's lone RBI.

Redshirt senior Tim Corbin (Murrells Inlet, S.C.) made his first career start and offered a solid outing, allowing six hits and four runs over six innings. The southpaw took the loss to move to 2-2 on the season.

Georgia broke up a scoreless tie in the third, stringing together three hits and scoring a pair of runs on a sacrifice fly and a fielder's choice for a 2-0 lead.

PC answered with a run in the top of the fourth. Martin laid down a perfect bunt for a single and the catcher's throw to first flew past the bag, moving the left fielder to second. One batter later, Paul ripped a deep single to left center to plate Martin and cut Georgia's lead in half, 2-1.

Lizanich made a sterling catch in foul territory to start the fourth, reaching over the dugout railing and nearly falling in to grab the first out of the inning. The third baseman also made a diving stab to throw out a runner in the first following a 6-4-3 Blue Hose double play.

Hunter Cole added two more Georgia runs in the top of the fifth, sending a two-run triple to right centerfield to give the Bulldogs a 4-1 advantage.

In the bottom of the eighth, a pair of two-out singles upped Georgia's lead to 6-1 before a double increased the home side's lead to 8-1. A home run to right field then made the score 10-1 and brought Ryan Morris (Jamestown, R.I.) in to pitch for Michael Ricchi (McKinney, Texas).

The Blue Hose did not commit an error on the day, their third such game in the last four.
