Three Blue Hose scored over 20 points, including Markus Terry with his career-high 21 points, to lead the Presbyterian College men's basketball team back from a 27-point second-half deficit to within 10, only to fall at the end to the VMI Keydets, 107-93, in Big South action tonight at Cameron Hall in Lexington, Va.
The Blue Hose fall to 4-19 overall and 0-8 in the league, while VMI improves to 12-9, 5-3. PC is next in action Wednesday, Feb. 5, when the team hosts Longwood in a 7 p.m. contest.
Reggie Dillard led the Blue Hose with a career-high tying 23 points, while Jordan Downing added 22. Terry followed with a career-high 21 points, with William Truss adding 11, to go along with his 12 rebounds for his eight career double-double.
Rodney Glasgow paced VMI with 26 points, followed by QJ Peterson with 25. DJ Covington, who had 17 points on the night, led the Keydets with 13 rebounds.
VMI hit 15-of-32 three-pointers, compared to eight-of-17 for the Blue Hose. PC shot 47.8% from the field, with VMI hitting 50.0%. The Keydets held the slight 47-41 advantage in rebounds and had three less turnovers, 4-7.
Down 27 points, 87-60, halfway through the second half, The Blue Hose fought back with a 20-3 run, off six points from Dillard and five from Downing, including a three-pointer that capped the run, to cut the margin to 10, 90-80, with 5:49.
Up 94-84, with just under four to play, Peterson hit two three-pointers over the next minute and a half to help VMI build the lead back up to 15, 102-87. Both teams traded points down the stretch with the Keydets taking the 107-93 win.
Trailing 40-27, with 6:32 to go in the first half, the Blue Hose cut it to a six-point game, 42-36 at 4:58, off a 9-2 run, sparked by three pointers from Dowling and Dillard. VMI responded with a 14-2 run to make it an 18-point contest before a three-pointer by Dowling with seven seconds left before the break made it a 15-point score, 56-41, at intermission.
