PC Drops Road Contest to Wofford

After cutting the Terrier lead to just three early in the second half, the Blue Hose suffered through a 10-minute scoring drought, which enabled Wofford to pull away and take the 66-45 win over the Presbyterian College men's basketball team Wednesday night at the Ben Johnson Arena in Spartanburg, S.C.

The Blue Hose drop to 3-5 on the year, while the Terriers improve to 6-2. PC returns to Clinton Saturday, Dec. 6, to host UNCG in a 2 p.m., game.

Jordan Downing led all scorers with 17 on the night, followed by Janeil Jenkins with his seven. Jaylen Allen paced Wofford with 16 points, followed by Karl Cochran and Spencer Collins with 11 apiece. William Truss pulled down a team-leading 10 rebounds for PC, with Justin Gordon tops for Wofford with eight.

PC shot 37.8% from the field for the game, compared to 39.7% for Wofford, with the Terriers holding the slight 41-31 advantage on the boards. Turnovers were in favor of PC, 17-7, with Wofford converting them to a 22-6 advantage in points.

The Terriers opened up a 15-7 lead, capitalizing on two three-pointers from Cochran and one from Allen, with 9:59 left in the first half. Five unanswered from PC, off a three-pointer from Jenkins and a basket from Anderson, to cut the lead to three, 15-12, with 9:03 left.

Leading 20-16, Wofford took a 9-4 run over the next three minutes to build a nine-point, 29-20 lead. The Terriers extended their lead to 11, the largest of the half, at 32-21 with just over a minute remaining before Downing hit his first three-pointer of the night with just 39 seconds on the clock to make it an eight-point game, 32-24, at the half.

Five straight points by Wofford gave the home team its largest lead of the game, 37-24, with 18:09 to go in the game. Downing snapped the small drought with back to back three-pointers to ignite a 10-0 run that saw the Blue Hose cut the margin to three, 37-34, 2ith 15:15 left.

Wofford responded with a three by Eric Garcia at 14:53, to make it a six-point game again, 40-34. It started a 14-3 run, capped by seven from Allen, to give the Terriers a 14-point, 51-37, lead with 9:16 left.

The Terriers extended their lead to 25, 64-39, with 3:27 left, as the Blue Hose suffered through a scoring drought of almost 10 minutes. Terry's basket at 2:42 ended the cold spell to make it 64-39 in favor of Wofford.

It would be too little too late as Wofford went on to take the 66-45 win.
