CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team dropped the second game of its weekend series at Auburn on Saturday, falling in a 3-0 result at Plainsman Park.
PC moves to 5-4-1 on the year while Auburn evens its record at 5-5. The two sides meet for a rubber match on Sunday at 2 p.m. Eastern time and free live audio will be available on 91.9 WKRI-FM and GoBlueHose.com.
The Blue Hose ran into trouble in the form of starting Tiger pitcher Keegan Thompson, who allowed just one hit in a complete game against PC. The visitors countered well with Chandler Knox (Columbia, S.C.), who allowed three runs on nine hits over 5.1 innings.
Brandon Paul (Augusta, Ga.) picked up PC's lone hit, snapping a seven game hitting streak for Brad Zebedis (Rock Hill, S.C.) and nine-game reached base streaks for Zebedis and Jacob Midkiff (Rock Hill, S.C.).
PC held Auburn scoreless through the first three innings, thanks in part to Derek Long (Alpharetta, Ga.) catching a stealing baserunner in the first inning at third base. A 6-3 double play in the second also helped keep the Tigers off the scoreboard.
Auburn broke through in the fourth, using a walk and a stolen base to set up an RBI single from Damek Tomscha to go ahead, 1-0.
Long caught another runner stealing at third in the fifth before the Tigers scored a pair of runs in the sixth. Tomscha singled with one out and an eventual Connor Short single brought him home. Brian Kehner (Marietta, Ga.) replaced Knox and a double steal allowed Daniel Robert to come home for a 3-0 lead.
Kehner pitched well for the Blue Hose, holding the Tigers to one hit over 1.2 innings of work. The freshman struck out three and walked only one before Michael Trebendis (Fayetteville, Ga.) pitched the final inning and held the Tigers hitless and without a run.
Saturday's game marked the seventh of the year without an error and the third in a row for the Blue Hose defense.
