ATHENS, Ga. – The Presbyterian College baseball team dropped a non-conference tilt to the Georgia Bulldogs on Tuesday night, falling at Foley Field, 11-0.
PC moves to 10-10-1 on the year and will turn around to play Wofford on Wednesday night at Greenville's Fluor Field. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. Georgia improves to 14-8.
Georgia scored four runs in the fourth and five in the sixth en route to the win.
Five PC players picked up a hit in Michael Trebendis (Fayetteville, Ga.), Brad Zebedis (Rock Hill, S.C.), Brandon Paul (Augusta, Ga.), Weston Jackson (Greer, S.C.) and Jay Lizanich (Greer, S.C.).
Starting pitcher Aaron Lesiak (Greenville, S.C.) took the loss to move to 0-1. The redshirt freshman allowed two runs on two hits in three innings of work.
Georgia starter Jared Walsh earned the win with a five-inning, two-hit performance to improve to 1-0. Nelson Ward led the Bulldogs by going 2-for-4 with two RBI and a home run.
The Bulldogs scored their first run in the second inning, using a bases-loaded balk to draw first blood.
Four runs in the fourth put PC in a 5-0 hole. Stephens brought in the first run on an RBI single before Mike Bell and Stephen Wrenn posted RBI singles of their own. A throwing error allowed the final run of the frame to give the Bulldogs a five-run cushion.
After PC retired the side in the fifth, the Blue Hose placed Lizanich at third with two outs but could not convert for their first run of the game.
Georgia struck again in the sixth. A leadoff walk eventually allowed Jess Posey to score one with an RBI single. A wild pitch brought in another and Ward made it an 8-0 game by singling through the right side to plate a Bulldog. Hunter Cole then hit a two-run double to give Georgia a 10-0 advantage.
The Bulldogs' last run came via a solo home run from Ward in the bottom of the eighth that found the right field stands.
Trey Hayes (Belton, S.C.) pitched a scoreless seventh inning, fanning one and going three-up, three-down.
