BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team snapped its scoring drought but could not overcome an early Campbell lead as the Blue Hose fell to the Camels in the second game of its weekend series, 10-1.
PC moves to 10-20-1 on the year and 3-8 in the Big South while Campbell improves to 21-11 and 7-4 in League play. The two teams meet in the series finale on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Weston Jackson (Greer, S.C.) drove in a run for the Blue Hose while Glen Casaceli (Jupiter, Fla.) picked up a hit in his first collegiate start at third base. Jacob Midkiff (Rock Hill, S.C.), Brad Zebedis (Rock Hill, S.C.) and Cam McRae (Darlington, S.C.) also each tallied a hit for PC.
Freshman starter Hunter Deal (Newton, N.C.) took the loss to move to 0-2. Campbell's Hector Cedano pitched seven innings and allowed three hits and a run to improve to 3-0.
Campbell jumped on the Blue Hose early, scoring seven runs in the first three innings. The Camels picked up two runs in the opening inning on a trio of hits before adding another run in the second on a Steven Leonard RBI single.
An error and two hits helped the Campbell plate four runs an inning later. Leonard drove in two on a double and the catcher would finish going 4-for-4 with four RBI on the day.
Two more runs in the fifth gave Campbell a 9-0 lead.
The Blue Hose broke through in the top of the seventh. Casaceli singled to lead off the inning but a fielder's choice replaced Zebedis with the infielder on the basepaths. Zebedis took second on a wild pitch and moved to third on a McRae single up the middle. Jackson brought the senior first baseman home by popping a fly to centerfield for a PC run.
Camel added one final run in the eighth en route to the 10-1 final.
Bennett Nalley (Greenville, S.C.) pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief on only two hits.
