BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team dropped the series finale of its weekend set at Campbell on Sunday, falling 4-1.
PC moves to 10-21-1 on the year and 3-9 in the Big South. The Blue Hose next play at Western Carolina on Tuesday at 5 p.m. Campbell improves to 22-11 on the year and 8-4 in League action.
Five different Blue Hose picked up a hit on the day and Cam McRae (Darlington, S.C.) tallied an RBI. McRae hit in his fourth straight game and Glen Casaceli (Jupiter, Fla.) hit in his third consecutive game.
Aaron Lesiak (Greenville, S.C.) pitched well in his start but fell to 0-3. The righthander allowed only three runs—two earned—in 5.2 innings and struck out three. Ryan Koopman improved to 4-1 with a six-inning, four-hit, one-run performance.
Campbell opened the scoring in the first inning with an Elijah Trail RBI double to put the Camels ahead early.
PC answered to tie the game in the top of the fourth. A leadoff single from Brad Zebedis (Rock Hill, S.C.) allowed the senior infielder to steal second and take third on a throwing error during the play. McRae then delivered an infield single to bring Zebedis home and tie the game. Weston Jackson (Greer, S.C.) singled as well to eventually put runners at second and third, but two straight outs stranded the runners with the game tied at 1-1.
Campbell capitalized with a squeeze play to plate an unearned run in the fourth before a Steven Leonard RBI double down the left field line made it 3-1 Camels in the fifth.
Paul Sanders (St. Simons Island, Ga.) entered the game in the bottom of the sixth with two runners on but induced a ground out to keep Campbell's lead at just two runs.
The Camels tacked on another run in the eighth thanks to a Seth Larue double for the eventual 4-1 final score.
Ethan Wortkoetter (Greer, S.C.) pitched one inning of scoreless relief in the bottom of the eighth.
