ORLANDO, Fla. – The Presbyterian College baseball team dropped the first game of its weekend series at No. 26 UCF on Friday night, falling to the Knights in a 10-0 result in Orlando, Fla.
PC moves to 16-32-1 on the year while UCF improves to 31-19. The two teams meet for the second game of the series on Saturday at 4 p.m.
Nate Chong (Duluth, Ga.), Jay Lizanich (Greer, S.C.) and Derek Long (Alpharetta, Ga.) each picked up a hit on the day.
Chandler Knox (Columbia, S.C.) threw six innings and allowed five hits and five runs (three earned) and took the loss to move to 6-7 on the year. UCF's Erik Skoglund went eight innings for the Knights, striking out 11 to improve to 2-1. Tommy Williams hit a two-run home run for UCF, one of three Knights with two RBI on the day.
The Knights tallied three runs in the opening inning, using a bases-loaded walk and a two-run Jordan Savinon single to take a 3-0 lead.
UCF scored another run on an Erik Barber single to take a 4-0 lead through two innings.
An error allowed an unearned run in the fourth inning before the home side scored five runs in the seventh inning. Williams hit a two-run home run and Brooks Morgan drove in another on a double as the Knights took the lead by the eventual final score, 10-0.
Bennett Nalley (Greenville, S.C.) threw 1.1 shutout innings in the seventh and eighth.
