ORLANDO, Fla. – Presbyterian College baseball dropped its series finale at No. 7 UCF on Sunday, falling in an 18-4 contest at Jay Bergman Field.
PC wraps the series with a 15-9 overall record and will next play at USC Upstate on Tuesday at 6 p.m. UCF improves to 20-5.
The Knights jumped on PC early, scoring seven runs in the opening inning. UCF added runs in every inning but the third and seventh en route to the victory.
The Blue Hose scored a pair of runs in both the sixth and ninth innings, scratching out four runs on five hits. Five different Blue Hose picked up a hit and Jay Lizanich (Greer, S.C.), Brandon Martin (Gray Court, S.C.) and Cam McRae (Darlington, S.C.) each tallied an RBI.
UCF led 11-0 before PC broke through in the top of the sixth. With two away, Tyler Weyenberg (Marietta, Ga.) hit a single before Ryan Hedrick (High Point, N.C.) drew a walk. Lizanich then knocked a double to left that plated Weyenberg and set up a run-scoring McRae single that capped the scoring.
Jack McLaughlin (Marietta, Ga.) scored on a wild pitch in the ninth and a Martin full-count single drove in AJ Priaulx (Warner Robins, Ga.) for PC's fourth run of the day.
Aaron Lesiak (Greenville, S.C.) took the loss to move to 2-1 on the year. Craig Williams (Duluth, Ga.) and Logan Beegle (Catawba, N.C.) both made their Blue Hose debuts out of the bullpen and combined for three strikeouts in 2.1 innings of work. Robert Moss (Jupiter, Fla.) allowed a lone run in 1.2 innings and Michael Trebendis (Fayetteville, Ga.) secured two outs with no runs allowed. Trey Hayes (Belton, S.C.) led PC with three innings, limiting UCF to three runs on four hits.
Peter Johnson's (Seattle, Wash.) 13-game hitting streak came to an end on Sunday as well, setting a new bar for the Blue Hose this season.
Kyle Marsh led UCF with three RBI and Eric Hepple improved to 3-1.
