LYNCHBURG, Va. – Presbyterian College baseball dropped the series finale of its Big South Conference set at Liberty on Sunday, 9-3.
PC moves to 16-12 overall and 1-5 in the Big South. PC next plays at Clemson on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. before hosting Campbell in a Thursday-Friday-Saturday series. Liberty improves to 17-10 on the year and 4-2 in League play.
Liberty fought off an early PC lead and scored six straight runs en route to the win. Victor Cole (2-1) allowed five hits and three runs in 6.1 innings, striking out 10.
Jay Lizanich (Greer, S.C.) paced PC with a 3-for-4 day that included a two-run home run. The senior shortstop hit three RBI and extended his reached base streak to 14 games, a new season-high for the Blue Hose this season. Tyler Weyenberg (Marietta, Ga.), Ryan Hedrick (High Point, N.C.) and Cam McRae (Darlington, S.C.) each picked up a hit as well.
Aaron Lesiak (Greenville, S.C.) threw 4.2 innings and moved to 2-2. Lesiak allowed six runs—four earned—and seven hits while fanning six Flames. Brian Kehner (Marietta, Ga.) made another strong relief outing, allowing no hits and one unearned run in 2.2 innings, striking out four.
The Blue Hose scored first, using a Hedrick triple and a Lizanich double to take a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Liberty's Becker Sankey hit a leadoff home run in the second to tie the game, followed by an Andrew Yacyk single to score a pair in the third.
The Flames added three in the fifth inning on a trio of hits.
Lizanich narrowed the gap in the top of the sixth. With Weyenberg on second, Lizanich hit a 3-1 pitch over the left field wall for a two-run home run. The dinger marked his team-leading third of the season.
Liberty answered with two in the bottom half, scoring on a bases loaded hit-by-pitch and a walk.
The Flames stranded 11 on the day to PC's four.
