CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian College baseball fell in the second game of its weekend series against Campbell on Friday afternoon, 8-1.
PC (17-14, 1-7 Big South) and Campbell (23-8, 6-5 Big South) will meet in the series finale on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Camels scored eight straight runs before PC tallied a run in the sixth. Peter Johnson (Seattle, Wash.) and Guy Casaceli (Jupiter, Fla.) produced two hits apiece to lead the Blue Hose on offense. Cam McRae (Darlington, S.C.) extended his reached base streak to 14 games, one shy of the team's season-high.
Seth LaRue went 2-for-3 for Campbell with a pair of RBI. Nick Thayer (5-1) allowed one unearned run in the sixth with five hits over six innings.
Beau Dees (Blenheim, S.C.) moved to 2-3 for the season in 5.2 innings. Russell Thompson (Alcolu, S.C.), Aaron Lesiak (Greenville, S.C.) and Michael Trebendis (Fayetteville, Ga.) combined to blank the Camels for the final 3.1 innings, led by Lesiak's two shutout frames.
Campbell used small ball and the long ball to take a 2-0 lead in the first. The Camels converted a Cedric Mullins into a run using a pair of sacrifices and Seth LaRue hit a solo home run shortly after to put the visitors ahead.
A pair of errors helped Campbell plate two in the second as well, widening the gap to 4-0. Another sacrifice fly in the third made it a 5-0 score in favor of the visitors.
Campbell added three more runs to their total in the sixth before PC got on the board in the bottom of the inning.
Cam McRae reached on an error and moved over on a Johnson single. The senior scored during a double play to break up the shutout, 8-1.
