SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Presbyterian College baseball team rode a strong first inning to a 6-1 road win over the Savannah State Tigers on Wednesday afternoon at Tigers Field.
PC improves to 18-15 overall and will host UNC Asheville in a Big South Conference series that begins on Friday at 3 p.m. Savannah State falls to 13-20.
The Blue Hose tagged the Tigers for four runs in the opening inning and never looked back, adding a run each in the fourth and seventh innings en route to the win. The victory marks PC's third straight midweek win.
Aaron Lesiak (Greenville, S.C.) turned in a strong start for PC, allowing only four hits and one run in five innings as the redshirt sophomore moved to 3-2.
Peter Johnson (Seattle, Wash.) went 4-for-5 with an RBI. TJ Richardson (Sugar Hill, Ga.) went 3-for-4 with two RBI and Tyler Weyenberg (Marietta, Ga.) added three hits as well.
Ethan Wortkoetter (Greer, S.C.), Trey Hayes (Belton, S.C.) and Hayden Deal (Newton, N.C.) eached pitched a scoreless inning. Russell Thompson (Alcolu, S.C.) and Brian Kehner (Marietta, Ga.) and
Johnson kicked off the scoring, cashing in on a Weyenberg leadoff single by doubling down the left field line. Cam McRae (Darlington, S.C.) singled to score Johnson and a Ryan Hedrick (High Point, N.C.) sacrifice fly plated Jay Lizanich (Greer, S.C.). TJ Richardson capped PC's early rally with an RBI single and the Blue Hose took a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the frame.
The Tigers scored a run via sacrifice fly in the first but PC answered in the top of the fourth. Weyenberg beat out an infield single before stealing second. An error allowed the sophomore to take third and score for a 5-1 Blue Hose lead.
PC tacked on a final run in the seventh. Hedrick hit his second career triple and Richardson capitalized, hitting an RBI single for the eventual final score.
Zachary Brigham went 2-for-4 to lead the Tigers. Greg Hollman (0-4) took the loss after 2.1 innings of work.
