Baseball Drops a 5-4 Game to Gardner-Webb

Boiling Springs, NC – The Presbyterian College baseball dropped a 5-4 game to Gardner-Webb on Saturday afternoon at the John Henry Moss Stadium. Nick Guimbarda and Nick Wise both had two-run homeruns on the day to lead PC. The Blue Hose fall to 13-28 overall and 6-11 in the Big South, while the Runnin' Bulldogs improve to 23-18 and 9-8.

How It Happened

Just like in game one, the Blue Hose jumped out to an early lead courtesy of two-run homer. In the top of the second, Nick Wise hit his seventh home run of the year to score Jack McLaughlin and put PC up 2-0.

In the bottom of the third, Gardner-Webb loaded the bases and tied the game on a Corey Howard single to first base. Mickey Dugan advanced to third on the play and was thrown out at home by Andrew Bladt.

In the fourth inning, PC was able to advance Wise and McLaughlin to scoring position, but failed to push a run across the plate. In the bottom of the inning, the Runnin' Bulldogs took the lead, 3-2, on a single from Ben LaSpaluto.

Gardner-Webb extended their lead in the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run from Redmond.

The teams would exchange runs in the seventh inning. Nick Guimbarda tied the game at 4-4 with a two-run homer to right field that also scored Bladt. However, Gardner-Webb retook the lead in the bottom of the seventh on back-to-back doubles from Dugan and Howard.

With the game at 5-4, Will Sellers came on in the top of the ninth to retire PC on four pitches and pick up his second save in as many days.

Pitchers of Record

Will Smith (2-3) took the loss for PC. The redshirt-senior allowed five runs on nine hits over 6.1 innings. He struck out a season-high six batters and walked two.

Bradley Hallman (5-1) picked up the win. He allowed four runs on seven hits and had four strikeouts against three walks.

Will Sellers came on in the ninth inning to pick up his fourth save of the season, and second save of the series.
