PC Slams UNCA 13-2 on Saturday

ASHEVILLE, NC – Presbyterian College senior Nick Wise hit a pair of grand slams and had a school record eight RBI in Saturday's 13-2 victory over UNC Asheville. The Blue Hose improve to 12-21 overall and 6-5 in the Big South, while the Bulldogs fall to 8-22 and 4-7 in Big South play.

How It Happened

The game started slowly, with both teams scoring one run on two hits over the first two innings. In the top of the first, AJ Priaulx hit a sacrifice fly to score Nick Guimbarda and put PC up 1-0. In the bottom of the second, a single by the Bulldogs' Cody Wilson tied the game at 1-1.

The Blue Hose then blew the game wide open by scoring five runs in the third and fourth innings. Priaulx got things started with another sac fly in the third. Wise then followed with his first grand slam of the day to make the score 6-1. In the top of the fourth, Wise became the first PC player to hit two grand slams in the same game and made it 10-1. Thatcher Coleman added one more with an RBI double to put PC up ten, 11-1.

In the top of the seventh, Jonathan White and Guy Casaceli singled to score two more runs and make it 13-1.

The Bulldogs were able to load the bases and score one run in the ninth, cutting the lead to 13-2.

Pitchers of Record

Will Smith (2-2) picked up the win for PC. The senior gave up one run on three hits and had two strikeouts against five walks over 6.0 innings.

Nick Broyles (0-1) took the loss for UNCA, allowing 11 runs on nine hits over 3.2 innings.

Player of the Game

Nick Wise went 3-for-4 with two grand slams, eight RBI, and nine total bases to lead PC to its third consecutive Big South series win.

PC Notables

The Blue Hose have hit at least one home run in seven consecutive games. They have 13 home runs over that stretch and 27 on the season.

PC has won three-straight Big South series. They previously took two games from Charleston Southern and Liberty.

Jonathan White went 4-for-5 to record his seventh consecutive multi-hit game. He now leads the team with 15 multi-hit games this season and is batting .545 in Big South games.

Andrew Bladt now leads the team with nine hit-by-pitches on the season. He is three short of being in the team's top-10 for a single season.

The Blue Hose will be going for the series sweep against UNCA on Sunday beginning at 1 pm.
