Blue Hose Head To Columbia For Midweek Battle

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team hits the road for the first time in 2020 with a midweek clash against South Carolina beginning at 4 pm from Founders Park in Columbia. The game will be broadcasted on SEC Network Plus and Fox Sports 98.3 FM on the radio side.

About the Blue Hose
• Eastern Kentucky used a five-run third to complete a three-game sweep of the Blue Hose on Sunday with a 10-4 victory in seven innings. The game was called after seven innings due to darkness.
• Senior Jimmy Marcelli led the Blue Hose offense as he hit .417 for the weekend highlighted by five hits including a double. Freshman Landon Shaw hit .333 with a home run and four RBIs.
• On the mound, Eric Miles racked up eight strikeouts on Friday afternoon, while junior Reagan Fowler had six strikeouts in six innings on Saturday.
 
Rankings
Zacchaeus Rasberry is one of three players in the Big South with three stolen bases to lead the conference.
Eric Miles is tied for fifth in the conference with eight strikeouts.
• With his four RBIs, freshman Landon Shaw is tied for seventh in the league in RBIs. 
 
Series History
• South Carolina holds a 9-2 record against the Blue Hose all-time in the D1 era dating back to 2008. PC took the most recent meeting in 2018 by the score of 7-4.
• In the 2018 meeting, junior Austin Paradis earned the win following 2.1 innings of relief. Grayson Stoneking also tossed 2.0 innings in the matchup.
• The 2019 game was canceled due to weather.
 
Scouting South Carolina
• South Carolina enters Wednesday's matchup with a 3-0 mark coming off of a three-game sweep of Holy Cross last time out.
• Braylen Wimmer leads the Gamecocks with a .444 average as he had four hits and three RBIs in the opening series against Holy Cross. Andrew Eyster and Wes Clarke both hit a pair of home runs last weekend.
• On the mound, South Carolina allowed four earned runs over 23.0 innings highlighted by Brett Kerry who had 12 strikeouts in his first start of the season. Brannon Jordan had nine strikeouts in his start against Holy Cross.
• Noah Campbell leads the NCAA with five stolen bases.
 
Record Chasing
• Senior Eric Miles needs four strikeouts to move into fifth in the Blue Hose D1 record book. Miles currently sits with 179 career strikeouts.
• With his next victory, Miles moves into a tie for first in the PC Division One Record book with his 21st career win.
• Senior Zacchaeus Rasberry needs two stolen bases to move into sole possession of third place in the PC D1 record book. Rasberry has 26 career stolen bases.
 
2020 Preseason Honors
Eric Miles and Zacchaeus Rasberry both were selected to Perfect Game's Preseason All-Big South Team.
• Perfect Game selected the Blue Hose fifth in its preseason poll
• The Big South Conference Coaches selected PC fifth in the 2020 preseason coaches poll.
• DI Baseball selected Presbyterian fifth in their preseason poll as well.
 
Blue Hose In The Minors
• Hayden Deal finished the 2019 season with the Florida Firefrogs, the advanced A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. Deal appeared in 23 games with the Firefrogs while making 22 starts as he went 5-10 with a 3.24 ERA. He recorded 99 strikeouts in 119.1 innings during the season.
