Blue Hose Begin Busy Week With A Pair Of Midweek Contests

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team opens a busy week with a pair of midweek contests beginning on Tuesday afternoon at home against Furman beginning at 2 pm. The midweek slate continues on Wednesday at 6 pm when the Blue Hose travels to Durham to face NCCU.

About the Blue Hose
• PC Baseball used a walk-off RBI single from senior Graham Mitchell to propel the Blue Hose to a 7-6 victory in 10 innings on Sunday at Russell C. King Field in Spartanburg. Hunter Grover had two hits including a grand slam in the fifth inning. Senior Zacchaeus Rasberry had two hits including a double and a pair of stolen bases.
• The Blue Hose used early offense and a solid start from senior Eric Miles to pick up a 6-3 victory over Brown on Friday at Harley Park in Spartanburg, S.C... Miles had six strikeouts over six innings allowing one earned run as he moved into a tie for first in the PC D1 record book with 21 career victories.
 
Rankings
• Zacchaeus Rasberry enters the week third in the NCAA with seven stolen bases on the season. Rasberry has three multi steal games already in 2020 including two over the weekend against Brown and Manhattan.
• Rasberry is also tied for third in the Big South with four doubles. He's one of nine players in the league to record at least one triple on the year.
• Freshman Kyle Merkle is one of five players that has a pair of home runs to lead the league in homers.
• David Sweat is tied for third in the conference drawing seven walks, while Rasberry sits tied for sixth with six free passes.
•  Kyle Benson is one of three players in the league to record a save this season.
 
Series History
• Furman leads the all-time series against the Blue Hose 17-6 dating back to 2008 as the Paladins have won the last six meetings. Tuesday's matchup is the first time the two teams have met since 2017.
• Presbyterian holds a  16-3-1 record against NCCU in the Blue Hose D1 era. PC took both meetings from the Eagles in 2019 including a 9-3 win in Durham and a 6-5 victory in Clinton.
 
Scouting Furman & NC Central
• Furman comes into Tuesday's matchup with a 5-3 record following a three-game sweep of Northern Kentucky last time out.
• MJ Sasapan leads the Paladins with a .318 average as he has seven hits and four RBIs on the year. Jordan Starkes sits at a .310 average, while Trent Alley has a pair of home runs on the season.
• The Paladins pitching staff is led by Mason Kenney with a 1-0 record as he hasn't allowed an earned run in five innings.
• NC Central enters into Wednesday night's game with a 1-7 record as they face High Point on Tuesday before welcoming in Presbyterian on Wednesday.
• Luis DeLeon enters the week with a .423 average as he has a home run and a team-leading 10 runs driven in on the season. Vinny Bailey enters with a .321 average with a home run and seven runs knocked in.
• The Eagles pitching staff is led by Caleb McRoy who has tossed 2.1 innings of scoreless baseball. Shane Davis is 0-1 over two starts with a 1.74 ERA.
 
Record Chasing
• Senior Eric Miles needs two strikeouts to move into fourth in the Blue Hose D1 record book. Miles currently sits with 185 career strikeouts.
• With his next victory, Miles becomes the Blue Hose D1 record holder for wins with his 22nd victory.
• Senior Zacchaeus Rasberry needs five stolen bases to move into a tie for first in the Blue Hose record book. Rasberry has 30 career stolen bases.
 
2020 Preseason Honors
• Eric Miles and Zacchaeus Rasberry both were selected to Perfect Game's Preseason All-Big South Team.
• Perfect Game selected the Blue Hose fifth in its preseason poll
